Highlights of the Year: The New Ford Mondeo for Europe

It was just about time for a new Mondeo car to land the market of Europe since Ford’s Mondeo model is one of the popular and preferred cars on both the new cars and second-hand vehicles market for a few years already. Back then the first Mondeo generation was considered as a practical family car. However, times change, cars change too and the new trend is all about downsizing, so let’s see how the Mondeo concept has developed.

The modern concept for a family car has changed a lot over the last few years, resulting in 4x4s and MPVs with seven seats preferred often as an option for the purpose of travelling with your family. However, there are still many fans of the old school conventional large five-seaters and this is the reason for Mondeo remaining one of the only two popular models its size and with a hatchback body, the Vauxhall Insignia being the other model.

The launch of the new Mondeo model has definitely gone through a lot, before Ford’s model landing on the international market. From the announcement at the end of 2012 to the actual release for the UK, we have spent quite a few months waiting. Although Mondeo has already been on sale at the end of 2012, the economic recession made Ford close down the factory in Belgium and leave us wondering do we ever going to see the new Mondeo in person.

Instead, the car is made in Spain and finally, we can enjoy it in the local market. Although the new model follows the theme and concept of the previous Mondeo, there are a lot of improved and new features we enjoy. First of all, the new model has undergone some significant change in design, giving it more current and modern look. The interior is also improved, ready to concur some of its prime rivals like Volkswagen Passat for example.

Optimum fuel economy and low CO2 are a guarantee for improved running costs reduction and also cost-free annual road tax guaranteed, coming with the 1.6-litre TDCI diesel engine. However, this is not the end of the choice options, because you also can have the new Ford Mondeo with 1.5 or 2-litre petrol engines, both turbocharged and even a petrol-electric hybrid model, which offers a great spacious interior, four-door saloon and generous boot space.

One of the best Mondeo’s features is its driving behaviour. With agile handling, clingy feel on the bends for a big car, well-sorted suspension and last, but not least, a great and reasonable price, there is practically no way not loving this great car!
