About the Citroen DS Range
Launched as Citroen's premium sub-brand, the DS line began with the DS3 in 2010, followed by the DS4 and DS5. These models aimed to compete with Mini and Audi's A1, offering distinctive French design with upmarket interiors. The DS3 proved most popular as a stylish supermini, while the DS4 hatchback and DS5 executive model appealed to buyers wanting something different from German rivals.
Build quality improved throughout production, with later models featuring better materials and technology. The range was spun off as a separate brand in 2015, though earlier Citroen-badged versions remain mechanically identical. Production of these original models ended in 2018 as DS launched replacement vehicles under its own marque.

Age and mileage are primary factors, with 2015 onwards models commanding higher prices due to facelift improvements and the standalone DS branding. The DS3 holds value better than the DS4 or DS5, particularly in desirable trim levels like Prestige or Performance variants. Low mileage examples under 30,000 miles attract significant premiums.
Petrol models, especially the 1.6 THP turbo, are generally worth more than diesels in the current market. Special editions and models with premium features like the panoramic windscreen, LED lighting and upgraded audio systems add value. Check the timing belt service history on 1.6 diesel engines, as replacements are due every five years or 75,000 miles and failures cause expensive damage. Inspect interior trim quality, as early models suffered from rattles and loose fixtures, particularly around the dashboard and door cards.
Test the turbo petrol engines thoroughly for smooth acceleration without hesitation or unusual noises. Examine alloy wheels for kerb damage and check that all electrical features work correctly, including the touchscreen system which can develop glitches. Verify that any DS Performance or racing models have supporting documentation proving authenticity, as these command premium prices.
