About the Aston Martin Le Mans
Built to commemorate Aston Martin's return to Le Mans racing, this special edition was based on the V8 Vantage platform with a 600bhp twin-supercharged 5.3-litre V8 engine. Only 40 examples were produced, making it one of the most exclusive Aston Martins of the modern era. The Le Mans featured distinctive bodywork, larger air intakes, and unique interior trim to distinguish it from the standard V8 Vantage.
Performance was exceptional for its time, with 0-60mph achieved in under 4 seconds and a top speed exceeding 190mph. The Le Mans represented the final evolution of Aston Martin's hand-built Newport Pagnell era before the company transitioned to more modern production methods.
What Affects the Price
Rarity is the primary factor influencing values, with full service history and documented provenance commanding significant premiums. Original specification vehicles with factory options and period-correct details are worth considerably more than modified examples. Mileage plays a substantial role, with sub-20,000-mile cars attracting top prices whilst higher-mileage examples can offer relative value.
Condition of the supercharger system, clutch and suspension components directly impacts pricing as these are expensive to rebuild. Paintwork quality and interior condition are critical given the age of these vehicles. Cars with complete documentation, original tools and handbooks maintain stronger values in the collector market.
Buying Tips
Insist on a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection by an Aston Martin specialist familiar with the V8 Vantage platform. Check for evidence of regular servicing, particularly supercharger maintenance and cooling system work. Examine the chassis thoroughly for corrosion, especially around suspension mounting points and sills.
Verify the car's authenticity with Aston Martin Heritage Trust certification, as replica conversions do exist. Budget for ongoing maintenance costs which can be substantial, with major services and parts reflecting the car's exotic status. Consider joining the Aston Martin Owners Club for access to specialist knowledge and reputable service providers.
