The Most Reliable and The Most Problematic Cars According to TÜV

The German Technical Surveillance Association (TUV) is one of the most respected organisations in Europe. It is responsible for the technical review of the vehicles in Germany. Based on these reviews, TUV experts compiled an annual rating of the most reliable and most problematic cars. This rating is based on proved problems in cars up to 11 years of age and older that have undergone a technical review between July 2016 and June 2017. More than 10 million technical reviews have been conducted over this period, which covers a total of 225 models from different years of manufacturing.

When creating the rating, serious malfunctions on the engine, suspension, gearbox, drive, electronics, etc. are considered. The most reliable model in the group for 2-3 years is the Mercedes-Benz SLK Roadster. Here the experts reported problems in only 2% of the cars reviewed. In the same category, Kia Sportage is the most problematic, with problems being found in 12.6% of the cars reviewed. In the category of cars between 4 and 5 years, the leader is Mercedes-Benz, but this time with the B-Class (W246). Reported problems in 3.9% of the cars reviewed.

On the opposite side here are Peugeot 206 and Dacia Logan. With Peugeot 206 the average mileage is lower, which means that it has a greater tendency to break. The most reliable in the 6-7 year category is the Porsche 911 (997) with a failure rate of 6.5%. However, the Chevrolet Aveo shows a failure rate of 29.3%. We have the same winner in the 8-9 years and 10-11 years. In the first one (8-9 years) Chevrolet Matiz (35.8%) is most problematic, while in the second category (10-11 years), Ford Ka leads the list with shown problems on 36.9% of the cars reviewed.
